The World Bank released its Doing Business ranking for 2014, which shows that India is among the worst placed among Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa (BRICS) for doing business. Take a look at how India compares with peers.
Last among BRICS nations
The World Bank's Doing Business Ranking placed India at 134, from a list of 189 economies. This pegs India almost at the end and even worse off, then the 131 ranking that it received for 2013. What is disheartening is that the country is ranked at 186th position out of 189 economies when it comes to enforcing contracts.
Brazil improves its ranking
Brazil, another BRICS Nation was placed at 114, improving its ranking from 116 in 2013. The country has a rating of 80, when it comes to protecting investors and 14, when it comes to getting electricity.
Super when it comes to enforcing contracts
Russia has improved phenomenally in ranking jumping to 92 in the Doing business Ranking 2014 by the World Bank from 111 in 2013. The country is ranked 10th in enforcing contracts from the list of 189.
High scores for registering properties
China like Russia has improved its ranking to 96 from 99. The country scores very highly in enforcing contracts and registering property.
The best among BRICS
South Africa was rated at 40 and was the best from among the BRICS Nations. The country scores very high in protecting investinments and dealing with construction permits.
