Dec CPI Inflation Beats Expectations at 5%; Opens Door for RBI to Cut Rates

Consumer Price Inflation for the month of Dec came in at 5 per cent as against most opinion polls which predicted CPI Inflation at around 5.2 per cent.

The CPI inflation was up from the previous month. Rural inflation came in at 4.71 per cent as against 4.09 per cent (month-on-month).

The lower than expected inflation now raises fresh prospects of the RBI cutting interest rates going forward.
