Despite lay-offs across the IT sector, Infosys is said to maintain its annual hiring through campus placement at 20,000. Automation, cost-cutting and visa issues have for quite some time now worried IT professionals.

In its annual hiring campus programme, Bangalore-based IT services company is said to recruit engineers with fresh skills that are more in demand including data analytics. Also read How Infosys US hiring plan is affecting techies in India?
The IT industry as a whole has witnesses a remarkable technological and business shift in last few years. The task of maintenance and testing which was earlier majorly performed by fresh recruits is also being automated. Companies' customers are willing to spend heavily on digital, analytics and Cloud services. Correspondingly, IT companies including Infosys are on the hunt for more specialized skills at the time of recruitment.
"The business model is evolving because of the technology. We are driving faster adoption of automation and improved productivity. But, there are newer areas where we can be people-intensive," said the company's CEO, Pravin Rao.
The campus hiring drive of Infosys is slated to begin in September and continue till February the next year. Infosys spokesperson is quoted in one of the leading business dailies saying "Hiring at Infosys has always been driven by business. Over the years, we have only increased the spread of roles we offer on campuses. The IT industry is witnessing a change in hiring patterns with unconventional, high-value graduates with differential skills likely to be more attractive".
The industry is now set to shift its focus from 'scale to skill' as per the National Association of Software and Services Companies. To upscale and enhance productivity, the company is also putting its focus on automation.
