Amid suspension of eKYC license by UIDAI and allegations of misuse of KYC data by Bharathi Airtel, its CEO, and MD Shashi Arora has resigned from his position, reports PTI.

The company released a statement saying, "Shashi has decided to move on to pursue opportunities outside of Airtel. We wish Shashi the very best for his future endeavors. He has been an asset for Airtel and over the years has contributed to the company's growth story. Having led the operations in key telecom circles followed by building a strong DTH business, he has laid the foundation for Airtel's payments bank operations."
Working with Airtel in senior leadership roles since 2006, he was appointed as the MD and CEO on 1st of June, 2016. The Unique Identity Authority of India (UIDAI) had prohibited Bharathi Airtel from conducting Aadhar based verification of customers using e-KYC process after allegations that it was using the SIM verification process to open payments bank accounts without the subscriber's informed consent.
As of Thursday, UIDAI has allowed Bharathi Airtel to use Aadhar for verification of its mobile customer till January 10, after it returned Rs 138-crore LPG subsidy in the unsolicited payments bank. The e-KYC license will remain suspended until investigations are complete and the audit report is released.
