As per today's Union Budget presentation, Rs 1,48,528 crore will be the capital expenditure for Indian Railways for period 2018-19. Finance minister Arun Jaitley also said that there were significant achievements of physical targets by the Railway Ministry.

Railway ministry plans to focus on safety, maintenance of railway tracks, increase in use of technology and fog safety devices.

600 major railway stations will be redeveloped has been taken up.

12,000 wagons, 5160 coaches and 700 locomotives are being procured.

The foundation stone of the bullet train was laid in September 2017 and an institute is coming up in Vadodara to train the manpower required for the high speed railway projects.
