12 Bengaluru-Mysuru Trains Now Faster From Electrification

12 South- Western railway trains between Bengaluru and Mysuru will now have AC traction. AC (alternating current) traction is used in new diesel-electric locomotives that allow locomotives to switch between diesel and electricity.

This comes after the electrification of the railway line between Bengaluru and Mysuru, officially opened on 19th of March. PM Narendra Modi had inaugurated the electrification of this line on 20th of February.

Electrification will improve the efficiency of these trains and reduce travel time. It is also cost-effective and pollution free.

A press release by the South Western Railway stated, "By attaching the electrical locos at Mysuru itself, the extra time required at Bengaluru for changing from diesel loco to electrical loco will be avoided. Thereby it improves punctuality. Besides, the measure will reduce air pollution and also result in cost effectiveness which help the Railways to save crores of rupees annually for fuel."
