In a tweet on Friday, IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) said that if a train is cancelled from its start to end location, the PNR (Passenger Name Record) is cancelled by default. Following the cancellation of PNR, the travel fare will be completely reimbursed automatically to the passengers.

The reimbursement amount will be credited to the bank account used to make the payment while booking the ticket.
This facility is already available on tickets cancelled voluntarily, where the total fare minus the cancellation fee is credited to the bank account used to make the payment while booking the ticket.
For counter ticket cancellation, irctc.co.in says "Cancellation of tickets and refund of fare may be permitted for PRS (Passenger Reservation System) counter tickets in normal circumstances only and not in case of late running of trains/cancellation of train etc."
