In a bid to ease travel and shopping related woes of customers across the country, the Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal and Chief Minister of Mumbai Devendra Fadnavis met last week to give an approval on the introduction of National Mobility card. The card will allow its holders to make use of the card on all sorts of public transport including local trains, buses, metro, monorail etc. not just within the city but all across the nation. Further, these cards will also function as debit as well as credit card.

As per the reports, the MMRDA will be the body which will be engaged in the development of such cards whereas Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation is coordinating for the Indian Railways.
After the meet, the state government as well as Indian railways is mulling over ways and working out plans to enable people store money in these cards and even on linking such cards to an individual's bank account.
And while the tenders for such cards are now in the finalization stage, it is expected to be available for public use within a year.
