Prime Minister Narendra Modi's most awaited and ambitious health insurance scheme- Ayushman Bharat, is set to be rolled out on Sunday, 23 September. The scheme that is reportedly going to cover over 10 crore poor families will be merged with the existing Mahatma Phule Janarogya Yojana.

A PTI report said that ahead of the launch in Ranch, Jharkhand, beneficiaries of the insurance programme in the state have been sent a two-page customised letter from the prime minister briefing the importance and benefits of the scheme. It mentions that the families can avail medical treatment at health centres and hospitals empanelled under the scheme and the PM hopes that the families will be benefited from it.
All the 10.74 beneficiaries across the country are reportedly going to receive it gradually.
The Ayushman Bharat scheme that is renamed as 'Jan Arogya Abhiyan,' aims to provide Rs 5 lakh annual health insurance coverage to 10 crore across the country.
The families that will be covered will be decided based on latest Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data and will pick 8.03 crore families in rural India and 2.33 crore in urban areas. There will no cap on age or number of members in the family.
31 states and union territories have signed a memorandum of understanding with the central government to implement the programme in the next 2 months, after its launch on Sunday. The remaining states and union territories that include Delhi, Kerala, Punjab, Telangana and Odisha have not yet signed up for the scheme.
