India Post announced its full-fledged entering into the e-commerce business by leveraging its parcel services for end to end delivery of products.

Communications Minister Manoj Sinha launched the e-commerce portal on Wednesday and informed the reporters that the Department of Posts has simplified the decision-making process by setting up a separate 'parcel directorate'. It will make decision making on parcel rates and provisions quicker. In this way, India Post will be able to leverage its already existing vast network for doorstep delivery of e-commerce products.
The parcel directorate allows the postal department to take independent decision to match or change delivery rates to stay competitive with private players. Earlier it would require approval from top officials, making it time-consuming.
Sinha further said that the portal was now open for vendors of e-commerce businesses to register. Indian Post will pick up the products from the vendors and deliver them to the doorstep of customers. Through its network of 1.55 lakh post offices, it can enable the reach of e-commerce services to the remotest of villages.
Sinha said the department will strictly monitor delivery of products. "The credibility that DoP has built over the years is immense. We will suitably resolve complaints whenever we receive them," the minister said.
