The deadline for customers to select their channels of choice to view has been extended by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). One can continue with the old plan until 31 March 2019.

On failing to exercise the change, the customers will automatically have to move to the 'Best Fit Plan' which will be developed by the network provider based on the usage, pattern, language, popularity of the channel, etc. They have also been directed by TRAI that the price of these "Best Fit Plans" should not exceed the current monthly tariff plan of the customer.
The new TRAI framework that was earlier meant to be effective from 1 February is intended to bring transparency and uniformity in pricing and give the viewers broader freedom of choice. The TV broadcasters are required to disclose the maximum retail price of all the channels and the consumers get to select and pay only for the channels they wish to watch.
The network operators are now required to provide a base package of 100 standard definition channels where the customers can choose these free-to-air channels from a list of bouquet offers and would cost a maximum of Rs 130 excluding GST (Goods and Service Tax).
One can check the list of prices on the portal created by TRAI to get an idea about the charges from all broadcasters.
