The Department of Posts through an order issued on May 20, 2019 has changed the powers of several authorities for sanctioning claims of heirs against investments made by their deceased relative in post office savings schemes that include certificates where no nomination has been specified or there is no legal evidence produced.

The order also puts forth the time for which the claim sanctioning authority must wait before actually processing the claim made by heirs on the deceased's investment.
In accordance with the new rules that come into effect immediately
"The authorities mentioned below are competent to sanction claims without production of legal evidence up to the limit noted against each, after expiry of six (6) months from the date of death of the depositor, if no succession certificate or probate of will or letter of administration of the deceased estate is produced during the period or up to the date of sanction."
