Calling Indian government's decision to revoke special status given to Jammu and Kashmir "unilateral and illegal," Pakistan on Wednesday said that it will downgrade diplomatic relations with India and suspend bilateral trade.

The decision was taken following a crucial meeting held by of the National Security Committee (NSC) in Islamabad that was chaired by Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan and attended by top civil and military leadership.
Pakistan also announced that it will expel India's ambassador to Pakistan and call back its ambassador to India. It has also called for a review of the bilateral arrangements between the two countries.
Further, in its statement, the country's foreign minister said that the NSC has resolved to take the matter of scrapping Article 370 by the Indian government to the United Nations, including the Security Council.
On Wednesday, after two days of Parliament sessions, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Bill, that bifurcates the state into two union territories and scraps the special status given to the region under 370, was signed off on the official gazette by President Ram Nath Kovind.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (3) of article 370 read with clause (1) of article 370 of the Constitution of India, the President, on the recommendation of Parliament, is pleased to declare that, as from the 6th August, 2019, all clauses of the said article 370 shall cease to be operative..." the gazette notification said.
