As per media reports, central government employees in the country are in for a positive treat yet again as their salaries are expected to increase by up to Rs. 20,000 beginning early 2022. This is as the centre is likely to increase their DA or Dearness allowance by 3 percent under the 7th Pay Commission, as per a leading news daily report.

Notably there has been no confirmation on this DA hike by the centre nor there has been any official statement with respect to its likely implementation, the publication adds.
Dearness Allowance abbreviated as DA is the cost of living adjustment allowance that the centre pays to the employees of public sector enterprises and even pensioners from a similar background. Typically, DA constitutes a large portion of a public sector employee's gross salary. This allowance which is given to offset the impact of inflation is generally hiked two times in a year- January and July.
Currently, DA of 31 percent is paid to central government employees. And last the DA hike was given in July and October 2021. Earlier on account of the pandemic, the government had withheld the three installments of DA and DR due from January 1, 2020, July 1, 2020 and January 1, 2021. Further, in July 2021, the government restored as well as raised DR or Dearness Relief to 28% from 17%
Also, the report mentioned that the government is holding talks to raise the fitment factor by 3.68 percent that could further push their salaries. The last hike on the component way back in 2016 resulted in pushing their basic salary from Rs. 6000 to Rs. 18000. And now in case the discussion on the same goes through then salaries will further see a hike by another Rs. 8000, taking the basic salary to Rs. 26,000 for central government employees.
