Before the must awaited DA and DR relief for central government employees expected in July, the centre has extended the timeline for submitting claims in lieu of travelling allowance (TA) on retirement to 180 days from the earlier 60 days from the date of completion of the travel. Nonetheless, as per the Department of Expenditure- Ministry of Finance, the time line in respect of submitting TA claim in case of tour, transfer and training shall still be 60 days.

The department's OM or Office Memorandum dated March 13, 2018 modified the time limit for submitting TA claim on tour/ transfer/ training/ journey on retirement from 1 year to 60 days, following the date of completion of the journey.
The decision to this effect has been taken considering the various submissions for extending the timeline for submitting TA claims against the travel performed as retired government employees have been confronting problems in claiming reimbursement of travelling allowance upon retirement within a period of 60 days from the date of completion of their travel.
"The matter has been considered in this Department and in partial modification of this Department's OM of even number dated 13,03.2018, it has been decided that the time limit for submission of claims for TA on Retirement is modified from 60 days to 180 days (six months), succeeding the date of completion of the journey," said the DOE's O.M. dated 15th June 2021. It added that the "time limit for submission of TA claim on tour, transfer and training will remain 60 days."
Travel allowance and other perquisites or allowances are extended to central government workforce as per the 7th Pay Commission recommendations.
