Key Things About Aadhaar You Must Know
-The Aadhaar system, spearheaded by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on behalf of the Government of India, issues a unique 12-digit number to individuals as proof of identity and address across India.
-This identification tool is crucial for accessing a variety of services, both governmental and non-governmental, including banking and mobile phone services. The Aadhaar number, which remains valid for life, is designed to serve as a universal identity marker for every resident of India, facilitating ease of access to numerous services without the need for multiple documents.
-Enrolment for an Aadhaar card is available to any resident of India, regardless of age or gender, provided they meet the UIDAI's verification criteria.
-Aadhaar enrollment process is meant to be undertaken only once; however, in instances of multiple enrolments, a single Aadhaar number is generated based on one enrollment ID, while the others are disregarded as duplicates.
-Obtaining an Aadhaar number is free of charge for all Indian residents.
-Both the Aadhaar letter, which is dispatched through India Post, and the e-Aadhaar, which can be downloaded from the UIDAI's official website, are recognised as valid forms of identification.
According to UIDAI, Aadhaar is not mandatory for every Indian resident who has identification documents. The portal has also notified that Aadhaar information will not be accessible to public and private agencies. Additionally, Aadhaar will not replace all other existing IDs like ration cards, voter ID, etc.
