Authorities in Maharashtra have been urged to speed up the implementation of power projects in Nagpur and Amravati districts. The demand for electricity is rising due to increased industrial, commercial, and real estate activities. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasised the need for quick action during a meeting, highlighting the importance of these projects in meeting the growing energy needs.

Fadnavis, who also manages the energy portfolio, noted that Rs 713 crore is needed for Nagpur and Rs 242 crore for Amravati to address power sector requirements. He instructed officials to ensure budgetary provisions are made accordingly. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of planning for future power demands by considering population projections for 2035.
Power Infrastructure Development
The Chief Minister directed officials to expedite work on approved power infrastructure projects. These projects include electricity generation, transmission, and distribution in the Vidarbha region. Fadnavis highlighted that investments in infrastructure projects are driving increased power demand in Nagpur district, his home area.
Fadnavis pointed out that many new projects are anticipated soon. The energy department must take concrete steps to ensure their prompt implementation. He stressed the need for strong measures to prevent damage to underground cables caused by various agencies.
Future Planning and Initiatives
The CM suggested using secure cable ducts to avoid wiring damage in power distribution due to new projects in both districts. Priority should be given to initiatives like solar agricultural pump schemes on-demand basis, transformer capacity enhancement, and setting up new power plants and sub-stations.
He instructed officials to undertake immediate planning for future power demand by considering the projected population in 2035. A comprehensive energy infrastructure development plan should be prepared for both districts.
Fadnavis emphasised that works approved under current funding for the power sector in Nagpur and Amravati districts should be completed promptly. This will ensure that the growing energy needs of these regions are met efficiently.
The Chief Minister's directives aim to address the increasing electricity demand driven by industrial growth and infrastructure development. By prioritising these initiatives, Maharashtra seeks to enhance its power infrastructure and support economic expansion in Nagpur and Amravati districts.
