Days after the cricket team of Pakistan exited from ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, their captain Babar Azam submitted resignation from all formats of the game. Azam, aged 29 years, took to his X-handler to make an official announcement. Azam said the decision was difficult but he feels the time is right.
Azam reminisced about the time he was asked to lead the Pakistan cricket team. He said, "I vividly remember the moment when I received the call from PCB to lead Pakistan in 2019. Over the past four years, I've experienced many highs and lows on and off the field, but I wholeheartedly and passionately aimed to maintain Pakistan's pride and respect in the cricket world."

He added, "Reaching the number 1 spot in the white-ball format was a result of the collective efforts of players, coaches, and management but I'd like to express my gratitude to passionate Pakistan cricket fans for their unwavering support during this journey."
Finally, he said, "Today, I am stepping down as the captain of Pakistan in all formats. It's difficult decision, but I feel it is a right time for this call."
But Azam also said that he will continue to represent Pakistan as a player in all three formats. He said, "I am here to support the new capitain and the team with my experience and dedication."
Lastly, he said, "I want to express my sincere thanks to Pakistan Cricket Board for entrusting me with this significant responsibility."
Led by Azam, Pakistan this year gave some impressive neck-to-neck intense performances, and even rivalled countries like New Zealand and Afghanistan for the semi-finals qualification. The country which is a neighbour to the 2023 Cricket World Cup's host, India, lost to New Zealand for fourth spot in semi-finals, and ended its inning in fifth position with four wins and 5 losses.
