The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on Friday announced a series of special measures to support the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic Air India Flight AI 171 crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025.
LIC Relaxes Insurance Claim Procedures For Victims of Air India Flight Crashed in Ahmedabad
In an official statement, LIC expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, including passengers, crew members, and people on the ground. As a gesture of solidarity and support, LIC said it would fast-track death claim settlements and ease some of the usual requirements to help grieving families receive financial assistance without delay.

"LIC of India has announced many concessions to mitigate the hardships of the claimants of LIC Policies. In lieu of death certificates, any evidence in Government Records of death of the policyholder due to the plane crash or any compensation paid by Central/State Government /Airline Authorities will be accepted as proof of death," LIC said in its official statement.
The insurance company said, "LIC of India expresses deep grief over the death of on-board passengers and crew members of Air India flight AI 171 and also people on the ground who were killed due to the plane crash in Ahmedabad."
To simplify the claim process, LIC stated that it would accept alternative documents in place of a standard death certificate. These may include any official government record confirming the death in the crash or proof of compensation paid by the central or state government, or by Air India.
Ahmedabad Plane Crash
On June 12, Air India Flight AI 171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner en route to London, crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, claiming the lives of all 241 people on board and several others on the building it struck during the crash.
This heartbreaking accident is the first fatal crash since the aircraft was introduced. It comes at a sensitive time for Air India, which is currently undergoing major changes under Tata Group's ongoing efforts to revive and privatise the airline.
