India saw one of the most tragic air disasters in recent aviation history; the Ahmedabad plane crash has left the entire nation in mourning. The heartbreaking incident, which resulted in the loss of over 280 lives, has shaken everyone, and people are questioning safety via air travel.
The crash occurred on Thursday when Air India flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London, crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport into the hostel building of BJ Medical College, leading to a big blast.
Air India yesterday issued a public statement announcing a financial compensation package for the victims' families.
Rs. 25 lakh interim relief is announced by Air India.
Air India stated, "Air India stands in solidarity with the families of the passengers who tragically lost their lives in the recent accident. Our teams on the ground are doing everything possible to extend care and support during this incredibly difficult time."
To support the immediate needs of the bereaved families, Air India will provide an interim compensation of Rs. 25 lakh (approximately 21,000 GBP) to each family of the deceased as well as to the sole survivor of the crash. This payment is aimed at helping the affected families address urgent financial requirements in the aftermath of the disaster.
Tata Sons to Provide Rs. 1 Crore as Additional Support
In addition to Air India's interim compensation, Tata Sons, the parent company of Air India, has already committed to providing Rs. 1 crore (approximately 85,000 GBP) to each affected family. This gesture reflects the conglomerate's commitment to supporting victims of the Ahmedabad aviation tragedy.
Air India's statement concluded with a heartfelt message: "All of us at Air India are deeply saddened by this loss. We mourn with the families, loved ones, and everyone affected."
