President Droupadi Murmu highlighted the global focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its potential to create numerous opportunities for young people across various sectors. Speaking at the 14th convocation of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur, she emphasised that AI is a transformative tool enabling computers to perform advanced functions, thus opening new avenues for youth.

She noted India's remarkable success in digital inclusion, which has garnered international attention. President Murmu urged higher education institutions to prioritise developing affordable solutions to local challenges. She stressed that while their professional outlook should be global, their expertise should also benefit local communities.
AI's Impact on Various Sectors
The president underscored AI's profound impact on social, political, economic, and strategic sectors. She mentioned that the central government is actively promoting advanced technology to encourage innovation. As a founding member of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence, India is fostering start-ups under the IndiaAI Mission, providing ample opportunities for young engineers.
In 2024, scientists in physics and chemistry received Nobel prizes for AI-related work. Their research ranged from artificial neural networks to micro-RNA exploration and protein structure prediction. These advancements could lead to breakthroughs in preventing and treating incurable diseases, showcasing AI's potential beyond traditional scientific boundaries.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Innovation
President Murmu encouraged students and professors at NIT Raipur to explore collaboration with institutions like AIIMS Raipur and IIT Bhilai. She cited the example of IIT Bombay and Tata Memorial Centre's gene therapy method for cancer treatment as an inspiration. Such partnerships should extend nationally and internationally.
The president highlighted the increasing role of technology in healthcare. She urged students from engineering and health fields to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation. This approach will drive innovation in engineering and other sectors, similar to how the industrial revolution expanded human labour through machine assistance.
Guidance for Students' Future Endeavours
President Murmu advised students to set their priorities and life values thoughtfully. She posed questions about personal development versus societal contribution, urging them not to compromise moral values for material success. Working for others' welfare enriches personal life and enhances social well-being.
She referenced Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam as an exemplar of using technology for human welfare. The president encouraged students to follow such legacies, suggesting that expanding their contributions would lead to greater personal growth.
Opportunities in Semiconductor Industry
The India Semiconductor Mission was launched nearly three years ago to establish India as a global semiconductor manufacturing hub. President Murmu stated that this initiative offers numerous employment and start-up opportunities for young engineers in this industry.
The president concluded by expressing confidence in the talent pool of the current generation. She believes they can transform India into a global centre for engineering solutions by adopting a global mindset.
Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Chairman of the Board of Governors of NIT Raipur Dr Suresh Haware, and Director Dr N V Ramana Rao were also present at the event.
