The first Air India Express flight from Surat, Gujarat, to Bangkok, Thailand, experienced high demand for onboard liquor. Some passengers claimed the alcohol supply was depleted. The Boeing 737-8 aircraft carried 175 passengers and six crew members on Friday. The plane's capacity is 176. Airline officials reported brisk alcohol sales but denied running out of stock, contrary to social media claims.

Passengers took to social media to express concerns about the alleged shortage of alcohol on the flight. However, airline representatives assured that both liquor and food supplies were adequate. No official comment was made by Tata Group-owned Air India Express regarding these claims. Typically, passengers are limited to 100 ml of alcohol per flight.
Onboard Offerings and Pricing
Air India Express provides five types of alcoholic beverages during flights. A 50 ml serving of Chivas Regal costs Rs 600, while Red Label, Bacardi White Rum, and Beefeater Gin are priced at Rs 400 each for the same quantity. Additionally, a 330 ml Bira Lager is available for Rs 400. Passengers have the option to pre-book meals or purchase them during the journey.
Alcohol consumption is not permitted in Gujarat, which adds a unique aspect to flights departing from Surat. Despite this restriction, the airline ensures a variety of options for passengers once they are airborne. The flight's success highlights the growing interest in international travel from regional airports like Surat.
The airline's officials emphasized that there was no shortage of supplies on board. They reiterated their commitment to providing a satisfactory experience for all passengers. This inaugural flight marks an important step in expanding Air India Express's network and enhancing connectivity between Indian cities and international destinations.
The introduction of this route is part of a broader strategy to cater to increasing demand for international travel from smaller Indian cities. By offering competitive pricing and a range of services, Air India Express aims to attract more passengers seeking convenient travel options. The airline continues to monitor passenger feedback closely to improve its services further.
This new connection between Surat and Bangkok opens up opportunities for both leisure and business travelers. It reflects the growing trend of regional airports becoming key players in international aviation. With more such routes planned, Air India Express is poised to play a significant role in connecting India with global destinations efficiently.
