Air India, under the leadership of CEO and MD Campbell Wilson, is set to introduce a new crew management system within the next two weeks, aiming to enhance the efficiency of its operations. This advanced system is designed to improve adherence to rostering rules, track training and qualifications more effectively, and facilitate quicker recovery from schedule disruptions. The move comes in response to concerns raised by pilots' unions regarding rostering issues.

The introduction of the CAE Crew Management System is part of Air India's broader strategy to upgrade its operational capabilities. Alongside the system, the airline will launch the CAE Crew Access app, providing crew members with real-time information access. This app will offer features such as flight swapping, a range of self-service tools, auto alerts, and secure in-flight chat options, as outlined by Wilson.
In addition to operational improvements, Air India is expanding its code-sharing arrangements. The airline has started placing its AI code on flights operated by Air India Express (IX), enhancing global sales and distribution benefits for AIX. This collaboration will introduce nine new destinations and increase flight frequencies, offering passengers the convenience of through-checkin and baggage tagging. This development follows the earlier implementation of the AI code on I5 flights and sets the stage for a similar arrangement with Vistara flights.
The Tata Group, which owns Air India, is in the process of consolidating its airline business. This consolidation strategy includes the merger of Vistara with Air India and the completed merger of Air India Express and AIX Connect (formerly AirAsia India). These strategic moves are aimed at strengthening Air India's position in the aviation market, enhancing operational efficiencies, and providing passengers with improved services and connectivity.
This series of initiatives by Air India reflects a significant effort to modernize its operations and expand its network. By addressing rostering issues with new technology, enhancing crew management, and forging strategic partnerships, Air India is poised to offer a more reliable and convenient service to its customers.
