Amazon Denies Reports of Fresh 14,000 Job Cuts Worldwide After Previous Layoffs of 30,000 Roles

Reports of another huge round of Amazon layoffs are circulating again, suggesting up to 14,000 job cuts worldwide and even possible team closures. However, Amazon has publicly rejected these claims, with an Amazon spokesperson telling India Today Tech over email, "These reports are false and not based in fact."

Asia Business Outlook has reported that Amazon is likely to fire 14,000 workers globally by May 2026. According to the report, the potential Amazon layoffs would mainly hit corporate staff, including white-collar employees and mid-level managers in Amazon Web Services (AWS), retail operations, and human resources teams.

The same report on Amazon layoffs suggests that some teams in China could be shut down completely as part of this restructuring. These alleged job cuts are seen as linked to a shift in Amazon’s long-term strategy, which aims to streamline operations and focus more resources on artificial intelligence projects.

Speculation around Amazon layoffs has grown on professional networking platforms, especially after a Blind post shared on X gained attention. A user claiming to work at Amazon wrote on Blind, "Heard rumors about layoffs happening in May.. Heard that it's gonna bring a lot of restructuring and may cut more than 10k people."

The same Blind post about possible Amazon layoffs captured the mood within parts of the workforce. The user continued, "I'm already so stressed and anxious about this job and don't know what to do with this news.. Should I look for another job?" The report also mentions staff complaints about "unclear performance criteria" linked to previous layoff decisions.
