Amazon India claims to have registered 110 crore customer visits during the Great Indian Festival, with 80% of shoppers coming from tier 2 and 3 cities.
E-commerce giant Amazon India has announced that it registered a record-breaking 110 crore customer visits during its Great Indian Festival, with 80 percent of shoppers coming from tier 2 and 3 cities. The company said that it witnessed a significant rise in demand for premium products during the festival season sale, which started on October 7.
Surge in Premium Product Demand

Amazon India stated that it sold 2.5 times more smartphones in the premium segment compared to last year, driven by affordability options such as No Cost EMI and exchange offers. Among all smartphones sold, 60 percent were 5G-ready, and 70 percent of all smartphone orders came from tier 2 and below towns. The company also achieved an all-time high in sales for large-screen TVs 55 inches and above, recording over 50 percent higher sales than in 2022.
EMI Options and Affordability
One out of four purchases made during the Great Indian Festival was done on EMI, with three out of four products sold on No Cost EMIs. Under this scheme, customers either receive a discount equal to the transaction fee and interest charges on purchase or the money is credited back to their account. This affordability option contributed to the surge in demand for premium products.
Growth in Other Categories
Apart from smartphones and TVs, Amazon India also witnessed significant growth in other categories. The demand for premium appliances, including ACs, washing machines, and refrigerators, grew by 2.5 times, with over 45 percent of customers opting to upgrade to premium models. ACs led the growth for the appliances category, with 2 times growth compared to other appliances.
The company also registered a 2 times spike in air fryers, 2 times in water purifiers, 1.6 times in outdoor sports products, 1.5 times in home workout equipment, and a 1.3 times increase in healthier cooking options like triply stainless steel and cast-iron cookware during the Great Indian Festival 2023.
Amazon India's Great Indian Festival 2023 has been a resounding success, with record-breaking customer visits and a surge in demand for premium products. The company's affordability options, such as No Cost EMI and exchange offers, played a significant role in driving sales. The festival season sale trend reflects the evolving consumer buying patterns in India, with a growing preference for premium products and a significant contribution from tier 2 and 3 cities.
