Amazon India is reducing seller fees, effective April 7, 2025, to enhance savings for small businesses. The initiative eliminates referral fees on over 1.2 crore products priced below ₹300, supporting competitive pricing and growth.
Amazon India has made a significant move to aid the growth of small businesses by announcing a major reduction in seller fees. This initiative, set to take effect on April 7, 2025, aims to enhance the savings of sellers, thereby enabling them to offer more competitive pricing to their customers. By doing so, Amazon India supports the expansion of these small businesses, allowing them to widen their operations.

In a bid to support a multitude of small businesses operating on its platform, Amazon India has introduced what is considered its largest cut in seller fees to date. This strategic decision encompasses the elimination of referral fees on a vast array of over 1.2 crore products priced below ₹300, spanning across more than 135 product categories. The referral fee, a commission that sellers pay Amazon for each item sold, will no longer be applicable to a diverse range of product categories including apparel, footwear, fashion accessories, groceries, home decorations, beauty items, toys, kitchenware, automotive products, and pet supplies, among others.
To simplify logistics for sellers, Amazon India has revised its shipping rates for those utilizing external fulfillment services such as Easy Ship and Seller Flex, setting a new flat shipping rate. This adjustment sees the national shipping rates dropping to ₹65 from the previous ₹77. Easy Ship serves as a logistics solution that facilitates the collection of orders from the seller's location and delivery directly to the customer's doorstep. Seller Flex, alternatively, allows Amazon to manage a segment of the seller's warehouse, effectively turning it into an Amazon fulfillment center.
Moreover, for lightweight items weighing under 1 kg, Amazon has introduced a reduction in weight handling fees, cutting costs by up to ₹17. This reduction is particularly beneficial for sellers dispatching multiple product units in a single shipment, potentially leading to savings of up to 90% on selling fees for the second unit and onwards. This initiative empowers sellers to broaden their product offerings and introduce more competitive deals, ultimately fostering business growth.
Amit Nanda, Director of Selling Partner Services at Amazon India, emphasized the company's commitment to the prosperity of its sellers, stating, "At Amazon India, we are committed to enabling the growth of all sellers because we strongly believe that our success lies in their success. By eliminating referral fees on crores of products and reducing shipping costs, we're making it more lucrative for sellers to sell on Amazon.in." This gesture underscores Amazon's dedication to enhancing seller savings and, in turn, enabling them to provide a more extensive selection and more attractive offers to customers, especially on everyday, low-value items.
The introduction of these reduced fees follows a previous cut announced in September 2024, marking it as the second fee reduction in the span of eight months. The earlier reduction saw selling fees decrease by 3 to 12% across 59 product categories. These continuous efforts are part of Amazon's broader strategy to support the growth and success of small and medium businesses throughout India.
Since its inception in India in 2013, starting with just 100 sellers primarily offering books in select cities, Amazon India has seen remarkable growth. Today, the marketplace boasts over 1.6 million sellers offering a wide range of products from smartphones to household items, servicing customers across all pin codes in India. The majority of these sellers are small and medium businesses, with more than half situated in tier 2, 3, and 4 cities. This demonstrates Amazon's commitment to empowering local entrepreneurs and businesses, thereby contributing to the expansion of India's digital economy and transforming the way India buys and sells.
