InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, has announced that Amitabh Kant, former CEO of Niti Aayog and India's G20 Sherpa, will join its board as a Non-Executive Director. Kant recently stepped down from his role as India's G20 Sherpa. His appointment is pending regulatory and shareholder approvals, according to a statement from InterGlobe Aviation.

IndiGo's Strategic Expansion
Vikram Singh Mehta, Chairman of IndiGo's Board of Directors, expressed enthusiasm about Kant's addition to the board. Mehta highlighted Kant's extensive administrative experience and leadership skills, which have been honed through managing global-scale projects. These attributes are expected to significantly benefit IndiGo, particularly in its rapid international expansion efforts.
Kant's previous roles at Niti Aayog included serving as a Director on the Board of the National Highways Authority of India and as a Member of India's National Statistical Commission. His broad-based experience is seen as an asset for IndiGo as it aims to become a global player by 2030.
Kant's Vision for IndiGo
Upon his appointment, Kant expressed his excitement about joining InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. He stated, "I am delighted to join the Board of InterGlobe Aviation Ltd IndiGo. With its scale, efficiency, and international ambition, IndiGo will open up new markets for India and transform our airports into global hubs of connectivity and commerce, driving tourism, trade, and investment, while linking people, markets, and opportunities across borders."
Kant looks forward to contributing to IndiGo's growth and India's economic development in trade and tourism. His insights are expected to help the airline in opening new markets and enhancing connectivity across borders.
IndiGo anticipates leveraging Kant's expertise to achieve its vision of becoming a significant global player by 2030. The airline aims to transform Indian airports into international hubs that boost tourism and trade while connecting people and opportunities worldwide.
