Taking to X, Mahindra wrote, "...on Friday I drove to Kadamakkudy to see if it truly deserves its reputation as one of the most beautiful villages on earth. Clean and pristine. Tranquil kayals stretching as far as the eye can see, with small launches chugging gently along their waters. Egrets and black cormorants preening and drying themselves in the sun. Mesmerising."
Fulfilling the personal promise, he drove his Mahindra Thar from Kochi to Kadamakkudy, a cluster of 14 islands located about half an hour's drive from the city.
A Village of Natural Beauty
Kadamakkudy is often called a "floating village" because it is shaped up of small islands surrounded by water. The area is known for its tranquil backwaters, lush greenery, and traditional Kerala village life. For visitors, it offers simple pleasures such as boating, birdwatching, and walking through quiet lanes. Mahindra said the experience left him "recalibrated".
Kerala Tourism Minister Mohammed Riyas welcomed Mahindra's visit and shared his excitement online. The minister noted that such recognition from a respected business leader would bring more attention to Kadamakkudy and help boost tourism.

Mahindra shared photos and a short video of his drive on X (formerly Twitter). His post quickly lured thousands of reactions. Many viewers expressed pride that a global business figure had praised a small Kerala village. One user wrote, "This is the real Kerala; thank you for showing it to the world." Another commented, "Your words will inspire more people to visit and protect these places."
Several people also pointed out that Mahindra's choice to drive himself in a Thar added a personal touch. "It is wonderful to see a chairman of such a big company enjoying a simple drive like any of us," a viewer remarked. Others said the video made them want to plan their trip to Kadamakkudy.
A Boost for Local Tourism
