In a significant move to bolster research and development (R&D) in India, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) is actively working towards operationalizing the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) Bill. This initiative aims to provide a substantial boost to the country's R&D ecosystem, fostering innovation and scientific advancements.

ANRF Bill: A Collaborative Endeavor
The ANRF Bill, which has already received parliamentary approval, will soon be notified. This bill establishes the Anusandhan National Research Foundation, a crucial body that will serve as the primary funding agency for R&D programs, technology development initiatives, incubation, startups, and innovation projects across India. The foundation will operate as a professionally managed entity, ensuring efficient and effective utilization of resources.
Prime Minister's Vision for R&D Excellence
The Anusandhan National Research Foundation is the brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who envisions a transformed R&D landscape in India. The foundation aims to upscale the country's research infrastructure, fostering a conducive environment for innovation and scientific breakthroughs.
Geospatial Data: A New Frontier for Collaboration
In addition to its focus on R&D, the DST is also taking a proactive role in promoting access to Geospatial Data. Recognizing the immense potential of Geospatial Data Science and Geospatial computing, the department is committed to liberalizing access to this valuable information. To facilitate this, a Geospatial Data Exchange will be established, providing industries with a universal interface to access the data.
Geospatial Data: A Versatile Resource
Geospatial Data encompasses a wide range of location information, including natural and man-made features, physical and imaginary elements, weather patterns, and statistical data. This information plays a pivotal role in the modern digital ecosystem, supporting the success of location-based services such as e-commerce, logistics, and urban transportation. Furthermore, it is essential for sectors like agriculture, construction, mines, and minerals.
The operationalization of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation Bill and the promotion of Geospatial Data access mark significant steps towards advancing India's scientific and technological capabilities. These initiatives align with the government's vision of fostering a vibrant R&D ecosystem, driving innovation, and unlocking the potential of Geospatial Data for the benefit of various industries and sectors.
