Ayodhya Ram Mandir Holiday: Many states in India have declared a public holiday on January 22nd for the celebration of the inaugration of Ram Lalla's temple in Ayodhya. It's a historic, and emotional moment for the majority of Indians. The latest to join the bandwagon of public holidays on Monday is Maharashtra. And if Maharashtra goes on holiday, chances are the stock market is closed too.
Maharashtra government declared a public holiday under section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, allowing citizens to celebrate the ceremony of Ram Lalla's temple in Ayodhya, situated at the banks of Sarayu River in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

India's two main stock exchanges BSE and NSE are headquartered in the country's financial hub Mumbai, Maharashtra. Hence, trading will be closed on these exchanges on January 22.
Late Friday, NSE in its circular said, "Members are requested to note that Exchange shall be conducting regular trading sessions on Saturday, January 20, 2024, from the primary site in Equity and Equity Derivatives segments as per regular market timings."
It added, "Price bands applicable for Normal trading day shall continue to remain applicable on January 20, 2024."
Earlier, BSE and NSE were going to conduct a special trading session on January 20, as part of Sebi's direction for Market Infrastructure Intermediaries (MIIs) to carry out test and live trading sessions for the switchover of functionality from the primary site to their Disaster Recovery site (DRS).
However, now BSE and NSE have conducted a full-fledged normal trading session on January 20 after Maharashtra declared holiday on January 22.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with other leaders and renowned figures will be attending the Prana Pratishtha, which began on January 16 and will continue to the consecration of Ram Lalla on January 22 in his birthplace, Ayodhya, a city on the banks of Sarayu River in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
While banks, schools and offices were not declared as holidays for the entire seven-day Vedic rituals, however, January 22 will be a special day and many states have announced public holidays for the celebration.
States like Uttar Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Tripura, and now Maharashtra have declared public holidays on January 22.
Also, the Central Government has announced a half-day closing till 2:30 pm on 22nd January 2024, at all Central Government offices, Central institutions & Central industrial establishments throughout India on the occasion of Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha.
Before January 22, the event details are:
- January 16: Atonement and Karmakuti worship.
- January 17: Entry of the statue into the premises.
- January 18 (Evening ): Pilgrimage worship, water journey, Jaladhivas and Gandhadhivas
- January 19 (Morning and Evening ): Aushadhivas, Kesaradhivas, Ghritadhivas, Dhanyadhivas
- January 20 (Morning and Evening ): Pushpadhivas, Sugardhivas and Faladhivas.
- January 21 (Morning and Evening): Mid-session and bedtime.
Ahead of the Ram Mandir inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone for multiple projects which are to the tune of more than Rs 15,700 crore. From infra, and railways to tourism, these projects will drive the city's economy and its people.
The Main Temple of Ram Mandir has a total area of 2.7 acres, with a length being 360 feet and a width of 235 feet. The total height of the temple including the peak is 161 feet. There will be three floors to the Ram temple, with the ground and first floor holding 160 columns and 132 columns respectively, and the second floor has 74 columns. There are 5 pedks and pavilions and 12 gates in the temple. Overall, the temple is still under construction and supervised by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The state-of-the-art of the temple will be inaugurated on January 22.
