Saroja Devi's contributions to cinema were acknowledged with prestigious awards. She received the Padma Shri in 1969 and the Padma Bhushan in 1992 for her achievements in acting. The Tamil Nadu government honoured her with the Kalaimamani award, and Bangalore University awarded her an honorary doctorate.
Her influence extended beyond acting roles. She served as Chairperson of the National Film Awards Jury and Vice-Chairperson of the Kannada Film Development Corporation. These roles highlighted her commitment to promoting cinema.
Saroja Devi faced personal challenges, including the loss of her husband Sri Harsha in 1986. Despite this, she remained resilient and continued to inspire others with her strength. Her fashion sense was admired by many, especially her sari styles and jewellery choices during the 1960s.
Her elegance extended beyond appearances; she was known for her decorum and respect both on and off screen. Her style became synonymous with grace and sophistication, leaving a lasting impression on fans.
Collaborations with Industry Legends
Saroja Devi worked alongside renowned actors like M.G. Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan, N.T. Rama Rao, and Dr. Rajkumar. She appeared in 22 films with Sivaji Ganesan and 26 films with M.G.R., among others. Her collaborations contributed to numerous successful films across languages.
Her versatility shone through as she transitioned from Kannada to Tamil cinema, then to Telugu films like 'Seetharama Kalyanam' and 'Jagadeka Veeruni Katha.' In Bollywood, she made a mark with films like 'Paigham,' 'Sasural,' and 'Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya.'

Saroja Devi's career spanned from 1955 to 1984, during which she played lead roles in 161 consecutive films—a remarkable feat in Indian cinema. This record reflects not only her talent but also her dedication to her craft.
