Bank Holiday 2025: Banks in India are mostly closed on several occasions, like festivals or national holidays. Bank holidays also vary from state to state depending on regional holidays. Along with these public holidays , both private and public sector banks in India closed for operations on the second and fourth Saturday of the month as per the RBI bank holiday list.
Is May 24 a bank holiday in India?
Well, since tomorrow is the fourth Saturday of the month, banks across India will remain shut for operations and will resume operations on Monday, May 26th, since Sunday is also a mandatory holiday for banks in India.
During these two days, in-branch banking services will be unavailable. Customers will not be able to conduct activities such as cash deposits, cheque clearances, account opening, or document-based loan processing. Any paperwork requiring staff interaction will be postponed until Monday. It is advisable for individuals and businesses to plan transactions accordingly to avoid delays, especially if documents or physical verification are required.

Online Banking Operations Will Be Active
While physical branches will be shut, most digital banking channels will remain active and functional. Services like internet banking, mobile banking apps, UPI, NEFT, IMPS, and RTGS (where available) will continue to operate normally. Customers can use these platforms for fund transfers, bill payments, balance checks, and other non-cash services. However, ATMs may face high withdrawal volumes, so it's a good idea to withdraw cash in advance if needed.
Other bank holidays in May 2025
In addition to the bank holiday tomorrow, certain state-specific bank holidays are also observed in May 2025. On Monday, May 26, banks will remain closed in Tripura on account of the birthday of Kazi Nazrul Islam, a revered poet and national figure.
Another bank holiday will fall on Thursday, May 29, when banks will remain closed in Himachal Pradesh for Maharana Pratap Jayanti.
Since these holidays are location-specific, it is always wise to check your state's bank holiday schedule or consult your bank's official notice before planning in-branch activities.
To avoid last-minute hassles, customers are advised to complete any urgent banking work, such as cheque deposits, cash withdrawals, or documentation, on Friday, May 23rd. Delays may occur in services like EMI processing, cheque clearing, or loan disbursals due to the two-day closure. Additionally, it is always a good idea to always verify regional holidays based on your state to avoid inconvenience.
