Banks To Remain Shut For 16 Days In January 2020

Year 2019 is nearing its end and as we usher in the new year 2020, banks during the very first month shall remain shut for 16 days including public holidays. Nonetheless, these holidays may vary from bank to bank or from one state to another. Banks in general are shut on second and fourth Saturdays besides Sundays. The apex banking regulator RBI has come out state-wise list of bank holidays.

January 1: All banks closed for New Year eve
January 2: Banks will be closed for Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti in many states
January 5: Sunday
January 7: Banks in Imphal will be closed on account of Imoinu Iratpa celebrations
January 8: Banks in Imphal will be closed on account of Gaan-Ngai
January 11: Second Saturday. Banks do not work on second and fourth Saturdays as per the RBI regulation
January 12: Sunday
January 14: Banks in Ahmedabad will be shut for Makar Sankranti
January 15: On account of Uttarayaana Punyakaala Makara Sankranti Festival/Pongal/Magh Bihu and Tusu Puja, banks in Bengaluru, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, will be closed.
January 16: Banks in Chennai will be closed due to Thiruvalluvar Day
January 17: Banks in Chennai will remain closed due to Uzhavar Thirunal celebrations.
January 19: Sunday
January 23: Banks in Agartala and Kolkata will remain closed due to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose birth anniversary
