The West Bengal Cabinet has approved the merger of Mother Dairy into Bengal Dairy, discontinuing the former brand. Additionally, new infrastructure projects to meet rising power demand were also cleared.
The West Bengal Cabinet has decided to merge Mother Dairy with Bengal Dairy, effectively ending the use of the Mother Dairy brand in the state. Senior minister Chandrima Bhattacharya confirmed that all products will now be sold under the Bengal Dairy name. This decision was part of a broader set of approvals given by the Cabinet, which included several infrastructure projects.

Among the infrastructure initiatives, two new super thermal power plants were approved. Each plant will have a capacity of 800 MW, contributing a total of 1,600 MW to meet the state's growing power needs. The land for these plants will be leased for 25 years, with an option to extend for another five years, according to Bhattacharya.
Infrastructure and Industrial Developments
In addition to power projects, warehousing facilities were also given the green light. Nahar Industrial Enterprises Limited plans to invest Rs 500 crore to develop warehouses for e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart. These facilities will be built on 11.35 acres of resumed and re-vested ceiling surplus land.
The Cabinet also sanctioned the creation of a Gems and Jewellery Park at Ankurhati in Howrah. This project will be executed by the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC). Land has been allocated at Domjur for training facilities operated by the Technical Education and Skill Development Department.
Land Allocations and Future Projects
Four industrial plots are set to be developed on 30.42 acres of land. Additionally, land parcels measuring 1.37 acres at Panagarh and 2.77 acres at Haringhata have been designated for industrial parks. These developments aim to boost industrial growth in the region.
The Jangal Sundari Karmanagari project received approval for 115 acres of land allocation. This project is part of the state's efforts to enhance industrial infrastructure and attract more investments.
These decisions reflect West Bengal's commitment to expanding its industrial base and improving infrastructure. The merger of Mother Dairy with Bengal Dairy marks a significant change in the state's dairy industry landscape.
