Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru is set to build a brand new Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower by 2027, as the airport is experiencing an unprecedented surge in aircraft movements.
Post the expansion of the Bengaluru airport, under which a second runway, the famous Terminal 2, was built, and rising domestic air travel have put a lot of pressure on the existing 18-year-old ATC tower, which has almost reached its operational limits.

The current ATC tower at KIA was originally designed for a single-runway airport. However, with the airport now handling nearly 750 daily flights and managing dual runways, its capacity is stretched, and there is a need for a modern air traffic control facility.
Benefits of the New ATC Tower in Bengaluru Airport
The new Kempegowda Airport ATC tower will significantly enhance Bengaluru's air traffic management capacity. According to officials quoted by the Times of India, it will help aircraft arrivals and departures smooth, improve runway efficiency, and also help improve the aviation safety standards.
According to reports, The new ATC tower in Bengaluru will be equipped with state-of-the-art technologies like Advanced weather monitoring systems, with Upgraded communication, navigation technology.
It will also come with modern automation tools for air traffic management.
New Tower Tender Floated by BIAL
Bengaluru International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) has already floated the tender for the design and development of the new ATC tower. Once completed, the upgraded tower will support passenger handling capacity of over 11 crore annually and will also improve operational safety.
