Bengaluru's public transport is expected to become smarter and more commuter-friendly; the city has rolled out its first-ever end-to-end Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) solutions through two revamped apps, Tummoc and Namma Yatri. These new features are powered by open transit data, enabling seamless planning across metro, bus, and auto routes, all on a single platform.
The initiative is a result of the Enroute Open Data Startup Challenge, an innovation program by Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) in collaboration with World Resources Institute (WRI) India and Villgro. It aims to transform Bengaluru's public mobility by making multi-modal transport more accessible and digitally connected.
Aiming for 70% Public Transport Usage by 2030
Unveiled on Thursday by Karnataka's IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge, the MaaS solutions are designed to support the state's ambitious goal of pushing public transport usage to 70 percent by 2030.
"Today, less than 50% of trips in Bengaluru happen via public transport. Our goal is to take this to 70% by 2030 by doubling down on smart and sustainable mobility."
"These apps integrate multiple modes of transport from metro and BMTC buses to autos and cabs, making it easier for commuters to plan their entire trip from first mile to last. No more app-hopping, just one interface to discover, book and pay." Kharge further said.

How the New Features Work
The new functionalities in Tummoc and Namma Yatri are built on General Transit Feed Specification data provided by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited and Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).
Tummoc now enables users to View real-time Metro and BMTC bus schedules, Track trip durations, Book autos for first/last-mile connectivity
Namma Yatri, widely popular as a community-driven auto-hailing app, has added Metro and auto trip planning, Real-time Metro tracking, Journey time alerts and more
These features make it possible for commuters to plan, connect, and complete their journeys across various public transport modes without switching between multiple apps.
BMTC and BMRCL Back Digital Transit Push
The heads of BMTC and BMRCL hailed the new MaaS features as a major step toward integrated urban mobility in Bengaluru. BMRCL's Maheshwar Rao emphasized the importance of bridging the last-mile gap through innovation, while BMTC's Ramachandran R highlighted the growing demand for public transport, citing a record 46 lakh passengers in one day and stressing the need for real-time, data-driven solutions.
