Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru's Terminal 2 (T2) has become India's first terminal to receive the 5-Star Airport Terminal Rating from Skytrax. The top rating for the Bengaluru airport terminal underlines its high benchmark for design and cleanliness to cater to a premium passenger experience.
There are very selected airport terminals which are honoured with the the prestigious 5-star rating by Skytrex, according to a social media post by Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport's official X handle.

According to Skytrax website, an airport terminal is awarded a 5-star rating only after multiple rounds of testing, audits and evaluation. For air travellers, Sytrax's top rating is an indicating that they will experience exceptional standards of facilities and staff service to customers across all front-line areas of the airport environment, said the rating agency in its website.
This rating is applied for up to 800 customer-facing areas of airport product and service, which spans over 30 different customer contact points from the airport website to its hotel quality.
The criteria remains the same for airports across the world and ratings are given based on the front-line customer experience on the end-to-end journey through the assessed airport.
Apart from Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport Terminal 2 (T2), Vietnam's Da Nang International Airport, New York's Newark Liberty International Airport and LaGuardia Airport, Paris's CDG Airport and France's Guangzhou Baiyun Airport are among tgaaa
The rating also indicate the quality of the assessed airport terminal based in of its design, cleanliness, security, digital integration, hospitality, inclusivity and sustainability, ensuring an exceptional and seamless travel experience, said a press release issued by Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) on Wednesday.
Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, said, "With this achievement, BLR Airport becomes the first airport in India to achieve this highest 5-Star Rating, the highest quality recognition for an airport."

Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport is recorded a 9% increase in the number of passengers handled last year. In 2024, the airport handled over 40.73 million passengers, which helped the airport to earn the designation of 'large airport' from the Airport Council International. It is known as one of the busiest airports in Asia and 56th busiest airport in the world.
The airport is known for its high-tech corners and facility. BLR's T2 biohilic 'Terminal in a Garden' design is known across the country. According to BLR's press release, key factors which contributed in the airport terminal's achievement are facilities like DigiYatra's biometric entry, AI-powered BLR Pulse App, fast-tracked immigration and Adfanced Queue Management, airport sensory room, etc.
