Bengaluru Namma Metro fare hike updates: A big relief for daily commuters as the 5% Namma Metro fare hike that was scheduled to take effect from February 9th, has been put on hold after the public backlash and directions from the Union government.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) confirmed that its earlier media release dated February 5, 2026, which announced the annual automatic fare revision, has now been kept in abeyance until further orders. The corporation stated that a final decision on the revised metro fares will be communicated after the Board's review.
Namma Metro Fare Hike Details
The proposed Bengaluru Metro fare revision involved a 5% increase across all 10 fare zones, raising ticket prices by Rs. 1 to Rs. 5. Under the revision plan. The Minimum fare was set to rise from Rs. 10 to Rs. 11 and the maximum fare was to increase from Rs. 90 to Rs. 95.
The hike was part of the annual automatic fare revision formula recommended by the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC). However, strong commuter reaction and public criticism prompted authorities to pause the Bengaluru metro fare hike, giving a temporary relief to lakhs of Namma Metro passengers.
Proposed Namma Metro revised fare structure
As per BMRCL's Notice, the zone-wise revised fares that were expected from February 9, 2026, included:
0-2 km: Rs. 10 to Rs. 11
2-4 km: Rs. 20 to Rs. 21
4-6 km: Rs. 30 to Rs. 32
6-8 km: Rs. 40 to Rs. 42
8-10 km: Rs. 50 to Rs. 53
10-15 km: Rs. 60 to Rs. 63
15-20 km: Rs. 70 to Rs. 74
20-25 km: Rs. 80 to Rs. 84
25-30 km: Rs. 90 to Rs. 95
Above 30 km: Rs. 90 to Rs. 95
Since the fare hike is currently suspended, existing Namma Metro ticket prices remain unchanged until further notice.
BMRCL's stance on annual fare revision
According to BMRCL, "the small annual fare increase is designed to ensure financial sustainability, operational reliability, and long-term service quality while avoiding sudden steep metro fare hikes."
