Bangalore Weather Update: Heavy overnight rainfall in Bengaluru has left the city paralysed on Monday morning, causing widespread waterlogging, flooded streets, and massive traffic snarls. With the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for Bengaluru, the Bangalore weather forecast indicates the worst is far from over.
On Sunday night, the Bangalore rains brought more than 100 mm of rainfall, turning several areas into virtual water bodies. The official weather report from the IMD noted 105.5 mm of rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours, with humidity levels at 96%, further compounding the discomfort for city residents.
Bangalore Rain Update: Flooded Roads and Boats on Streets
The heavy pre-monsoon showers, which began late Sunday, led to dramatic scenes across the city. Roads turned into rivers, underpasses were flooded, and low-lying areas in places like Koramangala, HSR Layout, and Whitefield became inaccessible. Videos of boats and tractors rescuing people or ferrying food have gone viral, showing the intensity of the Bangalore flooding.
Traffic police were seen struggling to clear congested roads while thousands of office-goers were stuck for hours in gridlocks. Commuters reported knee-deep water on several arterial routes, making it nearly impossible for two-wheelers and small cars to pass. The IMD has forecast continued rain in Bengaluru with a partly cloudy sky and heavy thunderstorm possibility over the next few days.
Bangalore Weather Forecast: Rains Likely All Week
According to the 7-day weather forecast by IMD:
May 19 & 20: Partly cloudy skies with heavy rain or thunderstorms expected. Max temperature at 30°C and min at 20°C.
May 21 to 23: Intermittent rain spells and thunder showers.

May 24 & 25: Continuous rain expected across the city.
With daily highs around 29-30°C and lows at 19-20°C, residents are advised to carry umbrellas, avoid low-lying areas, and stay updated with Bangalore rain alerts.
Karnataka Government Reacts to Bengaluru Rains
Reacting to the Bengaluru weather crisis, Chief Minister DK Shivakumar tweeted, "Deeply concerned by the havoc caused by relentless rains in Bengaluru. I've been in continuous touch with officials and monitoring the situation closely." Relief teams have been deployed in critical zones, and emergency control rooms have been activated.
Bengaluru Traffic Turned Worse Due to Bengaluru Rains
Heavy rains threw Bengaluru traffic out of gear on Monday, with several key routes seeing long jams and chaos. Commuters were stranded for hours on roads like MG Road, Residency Road, Richmond Road, and the Central Business District (CBD) due to waterlogging and fallen trees. Areas like Electronic City, Koramangala, Silk Board junction, J.P. Nagar, and Bannerghatta Road reported major congestion as stagnant water slowed down vehicle movement. Multiple stretches in Whitefield, HRBR Layout, and Sarjapura faced similar disruptions, leaving the city crippled for nearly six hours.
