Bengaluru News: Citizens of Bangalore on Saturday finally got relief from the scorching March heat as the city experienced its first rainfall of the season. However, along with the much-needed cool breeze, the heavy downpour led to severe waterlogging, traffic congestion, and flight disruptions.
Flight Diverted Due to Bengaluru Rains
The sudden rainfall impacted flight operations, with at least 19 flights diverted from Bengaluru to various destinations. Among them, 10 were rerouted to Chennai due to adverse weather conditions, according to airport officials.
IndiGo Airlines advised passengers to regularly check their flight status and have provided flexible rebooking options and refunds through their website. In a post on the X handler,
"Unfavorable weather conditions have impacted flights in #Bengaluru, resulting in air traffic congestion.. We are here to support you and appreciate your patience."

Severe Waterlogging & Traffic Disruptions
Several areas witnessed waterlogging due to Bengaluru rains, causing major traffic snarls. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the city received 3.6 mm of rainfall with thunderstorms between 8:30 AM and 8:30 PM. The Bengaluru Traffic Police issued warnings and advisories to commuters, urging them to take alternative routes.
One of the worst-hit areas was Hunsmaranahalli, where excessive waterlogging caused significant congestion, affecting routes leading to Kempegowda International Airport. Traffic authorities later managed to clear the water, restoring normal traffic flow.
Tree Falls, Hailstorm & a Tragic Incident
The Civil Defence Force reported that around 30 trees were uprooted and 48 branches fell, posing serious risks to public safety. Emergency response teams have been actively clearing debris, but with monsoon season approaching, authorities have advised residents to stay cautious.
Yesterday as per ANI report Tragically, a three-year-old girl lost her life after a tree collapsed on her amid the heavy rainfall in Bengaluru.
Hailstorms were also witnessed in Hosakote, Bengaluru Rural district, with residents sharing visuals of hailstones hitting the ground.
Bengaluru Traffic Advisory & Weather Forecast
The Bengaluru Traffic Police issued an advisory regarding congestion on the Nagawara-Hebbal stretch due to waterlogging. Commuters have been asked to remain patient as traffic movement remains slow in affected areas.
According to the IMD, light rain and thundershowers are expected to continue on March 22 and 23, affecting Bengaluru and nearby districts, including Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Mysuru, Kodagu, Hassan, and Chamarajanagar. Isolated showers may also occur in Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Vijayapura, and Raichur. Additionally, some parts of Bengaluru experienced temporary power outages due to the storm, further adding to the disruption. Due to the impact of Bengaluru rains, authorities are monitoring the situation, urging citizens to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
