Bengaluru, that is known for its salubrious climate, continues to live up to its reputation. Temperatures today are forecasted to hover around a comfortable 20°C in the morning, rising to a high of 29°C. December in Bengaluru is typically marked by mild cold, clear skies, and low humidity, creating an extremely pleasant environment for its residents and visitors alike.
Contrasting Weather Across India
While Bengaluru enjoys its characteristic pleasant climate, other parts of India are experiencing varied and challenging weather conditions. Northern India, in particular, is in the grip of severe cold waves, with temperatures dropping significantly.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in several states, further compounding the harsh winter conditions in northern regions. States like Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and Haryana are expected to see worsening weather over the next week due to an approaching western disturbance.
Rainfall Predicted in Coastal Regions
In contrast, the southern coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Rayalaseema are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall today. According to the IMD, some areas in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema may also witness heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
IMD Warns of Intense Western Disturbance
The IMD has further warned of an intense Western Disturbance that is expected to impact Northwest India starting from the night of December 26, 2024. This weather system is predicted to bring significant changes to the region's climatic conditions in the days that follow.
An induced cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining areas on December 27. This system is expected to interact with easterly winds at lower atmospheric levels, leading to a high influx of moisture from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.
Impact on Northwest India
The combination of moisture-laden winds and the intense Western Disturbance is projected to result in widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and potentially even snowfall in higher altitudes. States such as Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir are expected to bear the brunt of these weather conditions, which are likely to persist until December 28.
Advisories for Affected Regions
These adverse weather phenomena could lead to significant disruptions, including transportation challenges, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and impacts on agriculture. Residents in the affected areas are strongly advised to stay updated with IMD forecasts and take necessary precautions to minimize risks.
