Bengaluru city will experience cloudy skies, light rain and gusty winds over the weekend, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the next 36 hours. Residents are advised to stay cautious, as the Bengaluru weather may cause traffic disruptions and waterlogging in several parts of the city.
Bengaluru Weather in the Next 24 Hours
According to the Bengaluru Meteorological Centre, the sky will remain mostly cloudy with light spells of rain likely in different parts of the city. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 26°C, while the minimum may dip to 20°C, keeping the Bengaluru weather relatively cool.

Next 48 Hours: Winds to Pick Up
Light rain is also likely on Monday, August 18th, with winds expected to strengthen between 30 and 40 kmph. IMD has warned that heavy rains in Bengaluru, even if short, could lead to traffic jams, uprooting of trees and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Possible Impacts Of Bengaluru Rains
Traffic congestion due to poor visibility and waterlogging.
Falling of tree branches/trees which may damage vehicles or power lines.
Flooding in low-lying areas, especially near drains and underpasses.
Risk of landslides or mudslides in ghat regions.
Standing crops and vegetables may suffer damage if heavy showers persist.

Heavy Rain Fallout Hits Hard
The recent heavy rain in Bengaluru has caused a lot of destruction across the city. As per several reports, three people lost their lives after trees collapsed during the rain, while nearly 878 roads covering over 343 km have been damaged or made unusable. In addition, more than 1,114 homes have suffered rain-related damage, according to reports.
Among the worst-hit localities is Bommanahalli, where around 150 km of roads have been destroyed. Severe waterlogging has also been reported in several parts of the South and East zones, affecting many households.
The BBMP (Bengaluru Municipal Corporation) has announced compensation for families impacted by the floods and is taking up preventive measures such as constructing protective walls along storm drains in flood-prone areas. Out of 218 identified vulnerable spots, work has already been completed in 169 locations, with efforts continuing in the remaining areas.
Safety Tips for Bengaluru Residents
The IMD has urged residents to take precautions during this period:
Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall.
Stay away from waterlogged areas and riverfronts.
Take shelter indoors during thunderstorms and lightning.
Farmers should ensure proper drainage to protect crops.
Keep track of official weather updates
Warning for Fishermen on the Karnataka Coast
IMD has also warned fishermen of squally weather with wind speeds of 45-55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph along the Karnataka coast till August 19. They have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea during this time.
The IMD says rainfall activity is likely to reduce across Karnataka between August 22 and 24, with only light showers expected at isolated places. For now, Bengaluru residents should keep their umbrellas handy, plan travel carefully, and stay alert as the city heads into a rainy and windy weekend.
