GST Rate Cut
To give a major consumption boost, the central government had earlier announced reduction in GST rates in nearly all the products. From automobiles, to gadgets to grocery items, GST rates has been reduced across the categories. The new GST rates will come into effect on September 22.
The central government has announced a reduction in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on several products, leading to a decrease in prices for items like Nandini ghee, butter, and paneer starting September 22. This move is expected to make these daily essentials more affordable for consumers.
The GST on ghee, butter, cheese, and crunchy snacks has been lowered from 12% to 5%, reported DH citing a KMF press release. Additionally, cookies, chocolates, ice creams, instant mixes, and packaged drinking water have seen their GST reduced from 18% to just 5%. This significant tax cut aims to benefit consumers by lowering retail prices.
A variety of other products such as ice creams, cookies, cakes, and muffins are also anticipated to see price reductions due to the GST cut. These changes reflect an effort by authorities to ease financial burdens on households by making everyday items more affordable.
Previously taxed at 5%, Paneer and Ultra High Temperature (UHT) milk products will now be exempt from GST altogether. This exemption further contributes to reducing costs for consumers who rely on these dairy products regularly.
This initiative by the central government is part of broader measures aimed at providing economic relief through tax adjustments. By reducing GST rates on essential goods, authorities hope to stimulate consumer spending while easing inflationary pressures on household budgets.
