Bharti Airtel, the country's leading telecom operator on Sunday announced that it would offer a recharge plan worth Rs. 49 free of cost to close to 55 million low income subscribers on its network. The step has been taken to ensure that the company's low income customer base remains connected in these distressed hours of the pandemic.

"Through this gesture, Airtel will empower over 55 million customers, mostly in rural areas, to stay connected and have access to critical information when needed," the company said.
In the Rs. 49 recharge plan offering by Airtel, subscribers get talk time of Rs. 38 in addition to 100 MB data with a validity period of 28 days.
Simultaneously, the company announced that those customers who buy its Rs. 79 plan will now be able to avail double the benefit.
For the benefits announced, the company's statement said, "These benefits worth Rs. 270 crore would help 55 million low income customers to tide over the impact of Covid-19".
In respect of the timeline, the company said these benefits shall be available to customer in the upcoming week.
Jio's announcement of free 300 minutes of outgoing call per month until the pandemic lasts
Earlier, Jio announced that in collaboration with Reliance Foundation it is working to provide free 300 minutes of outgoing calls each month to customer who have not been able to recharge until now amid the pandemic crisis. The offering shall be until the time the country faces the pandemic situation.
