The Ministry of Railways on Saturday announced a reduction in the price of Rail Neer, the packaged drinking water sold across railway stations and trains. The decision comes as part of efforts to ensure that the benefit of reduced Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates is passed on to consumers without delay.
Railway Packaged Drinking Water; Rail Neer Price Drop; Check Latest Rates
From Monday, September 22, a 1-litre bottle of Rail Neer will cost Rs 14, down from the earlier price of Rs 15. Similarly, the 500 ml bottle will now be available at Rs 9, compared to the previous rate of Rs 10. The revised prices will be implemented uniformly across all zones of Indian Railways, covering both station premises and onboard train sales.

The Ministry also clarified that the price reduction will not be limited to Rail Neer alone. Other packaged drinking water brands, which have been shortlisted by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and approved for sale on railway premises, will also see their prices brought down in line with the new structure. This means passengers opting for alternate bottled water brands will enjoy the same revised rates Rs 14 for a 1-litre bottle and Rs 9 for a 500 ml bottle.
In its official statement, the Ministry said, "In continuation of Board's above referred Circular, Ministry of Railways (Railway Board) with the concurrence of the F(C) Directorate, have now decided as under: 1. Maximum retail price of packaged drinking water bottle 'Rail Neer' shall be revised from 15/- to 14/- per bottle of one litre and 10/- to 9/- per bottle of 500 ml capacity. 2. Maximum retail price of IRCTC/Railways shortlisted packaged drinking water bottles of other brands sold in railway premises/trains shall also be revised accordingly."
Rail Neer, produced and marketed by IRCTC, remains one of the most widely sold packaged water brands in the country, catering to the daily needs of lakhs of train travelers. The marginal cut, while seemingly small, holds significance given the vast scale of consumption across the Indian Railways network. With crores of passengers traveling every month, even a Rs 1 reduction per bottle translates into considerable collective savings.
With this revision taking effect from September 22, passengers can expect to purchase Rail Neer and other approved bottled water brands at the reduced rates across railway premises and trains nationwide.
