The Bihar government is focusing on developing its textile industry to boost the state's economy and generate employment, according to Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh. Speaking at the Textile Investors Meet in Patna, Singh highlighted Bihar's potential to create significant job opportunities in this sector.

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha emphasised that the state is actively working to attract investors. He stated that the government aims to provide ample opportunities for investment in Bihar. State Industries Minister Nitish Mishra added that Bihar has the potential to become a major economic hub due to its favourable business environment.
Employment Opportunities and Workforce
Singh noted that the textile industry has immense potential for job creation, second only to agriculture. He pointed out that women constitute 70% of the workforce in this sector. Bihar's 1.5 crore Jeevika Didis, who are part of self-help groups, could drive growth if integrated into the textile industry.
Union Textiles Secretary Rachna Shah mentioned that India is a leading producer of textiles and apparel. She said Bihar is well-positioned to excel in this sector due to its skilled workforce, abundant raw materials, and supportive industrial policies.
Upcoming Initiatives and Investments
Singh announced plans for a national-level handloom expo in Bihar in October. He also expressed commitment to promoting Bhagalpuri silk and mentioned plans to establish a regional office in the state to support the textile sector.
The meet saw participation from over 100 industry representatives, with 22 expressing their intention to invest in Bihar. An official statement confirmed these investment commitments, highlighting the state's attractiveness as an investment destination.
The event aimed to showcase Bihar's potential in the textile sector, attract investments, and create employment opportunities. The government's goal is to build a robust textile industry that benefits the state's economy and promotes sustainable development.
Bihar's efforts to develop its textile industry are expected to create substantial employment opportunities and drive economic growth. The state's favourable business environment and skilled workforce make it an ideal location for investment in this sector.
