A shocking gruesome murder incident gripped Bengaluru this morning, Om Prakash, a retired Director General of Police (DGP) of Karnataka, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his residence in HSR Layout on April 21, 2025. The 68-year-old former top cop was discovered lying in a pool of blood with many injuries on his body as per reports, which have raised serious suspicions of murder.
What Happened to Former DGP Om Prakash?
The shocking incident took place at his three-storeyed house in a posh area of HSR Layout. His wife, Pallavi, alerted the police after finding him unresponsive on the ground floor. According to police, it appears he was attacked with a weapon and suffered heavy blood loss.

"There has been a physical assault. A weapon was used. We suspect foul play but need to investigate further," said Additional Commissioner of Police Vikash Kumar Vikash, who was quoted by Mint. A FIR is being filed after a formal complaint from Om Prakash's son.
Was It a Family Dispute? Police Probe in Full Swing
As per reports from news agency PTI, police have already started questioning Om Prakash's wife and daughter. Initial investigations point toward a possible property dispute in the family. Some close friends of Om Prakash have also claimed that he had earlier spoken about facing threats to his life.
The Bangalore Crime Branch is leading the investigation. The authorities are waiting for the post-mortem report, which will shed more light on the cause and manner of death.
Who Was Om Prakash?
Om Prakash was a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1981 batch. He was born in Champaran, Bihar, and held a master's degree in geology. He began his career in Karnataka as Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Harapanahalli. He later served as SP (Superintendent of Police) in Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru.
Om Prakash also held key roles in the Lokayukta, Fire and Emergency Services, and the Crime Investigation Department (CID). He was promoted as Director General of Police (DGP) on March 1, 2015, as per reports.
He was known for his honesty and no-nonsense work ethic, and Om Prakash was respected by colleagues and juniors alike. His sudden and tragic death has left the police force and citizens of Karnataka in disbelief.
What's Happening Now?
Police have sealed off the crime scene, collected initial evidence, and are now scanning CCTV footage, mobile phone records, and digital data. A team of forensic experts is also involved in the probe. People close to Om Prakash and law enforcement officials are demanding a fair and detailed investigation into what truly happened to the retired Karnataka DGP.
