Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced that the state is poised to generate surplus revenue in the 2024-2025 fiscal year, citing the success of the NDA governments policies in driving economic growth and reducing poverty.
Patna, February 19: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed confidence that the state will achieve a surplus revenue in the 2024-2025 fiscal year, citing the positive impact of the NDA government's policy initiatives. Choudhary, who also holds the finance portfolio, emphasized Bihar's commitment to fiscal consolidation and highlighted the significant growth in economic activities within the state.

Robust Economic Growth and Fiscal Consolidation
During his participation in the debate on the Bihar budget in the assembly, Choudhary stated, "The economic activities in the state have increased significantly in recent years. The policy initiatives taken by the NDA government will certainly generate surplus revenue in the coming financial year." He further highlighted the state's strong financial position, with a growth rate of 10.64 percent, the highest in the country. Choudhary also mentioned the success in lifting 2.5 crore people out of poverty during the current financial year.
Budget Highlights and Opposition's Concerns
Choudhary presented the budget for the next fiscal year, amounting to Rs 2,78,725.72 crore, marking an increase of Rs 16,840 crore compared to the previous year. However, the budget presentation was met with opposition from members of the assembly, who later staged a walkout. CPI ML Liberation MLA Ajit Kushwaha criticized the budget for lacking new welfare schemes for the poor and socially marginalized individuals, as well as failing to address the creation of employment opportunities.
Government's Focus on Social Services
In response to the concerns raised, senior BJP leader and former finance minister Tarkishore Prasad asserted that a significant portion of the state government's revenue expenditure will be allocated to social services. He emphasized, "This shows the commitment of the NDA government for the social and economic growth of Bihar."
The Bihar government's projection of surplus revenue in the upcoming fiscal year reflects its commitment to fiscal discipline and economic growth. While the budget faced criticism from the opposition, the government highlighted its focus on social services and economic development as key priorities.
