The BJP's recent resolution encourages businesses to pass on GST cut benefits to consumers, aiming for economic growth and fairness in India. This initiative supports the Prime Minister's vision of a prosperous nation.
A recent BJP resolution praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the GST rate reduction and urged manufacturers and traders to pass on these benefits to consumers. The resolution emphasised the importance of fairness and growth, encouraging businesses to lower prices to enhance consumer relief, thereby transforming reforms into improved living standards, increased demand, and a more prosperous economy.

The resolution, proposed by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and approved by BJP MPs at a workshop, highlighted that reduced prices would lead to higher demand, boosting business prosperity and strengthening the nation. It called on manufacturers and traders, regardless of size, to ensure that savings and rebates directly benefit consumers. "By passing on every saving and every relief, we honour the Prime Minister's vision while strengthening the trust between shopkeeper and customer, trader and citizen," it stated.
GST Reforms and Economic Impact
The resolution underscored that the GST reforms under Modi should be remembered as a governance triumph and a promise fulfilled to the Indian people. It stressed that these changes represent unity, fairness, and shared growth. The duty now lies with traders to pass on every rupee of relief to consumers, turning reforms into ease of living, greater demand, and a more prosperous economy.
BJP MPs expressed their gratitude towards Modi for this bold move that benefits citizens. Eight years ago, India adopted the Goods and Services Tax (GST), realising the vision of "One Nation, One Tax." This replaced a complex tax system with VAT and multiple taxes with a unified market that has brought fairness, simplicity, and strength to the Indian economy.
Achievements Under GST Implementation
The resolution noted that previous governments failed to implement GST, but Modi successfully introduced it with nationwide consensus. In eight years, the GST taxpayer base has more than doubled from 66 lakh in 2017 to over 1.5 crore today. Annual collections have surged beyond Rs 22 lakh crore in FY 2024-25, growing at a CAGR of over 18 per cent.
GST collections now approach Rs 2 lakh crore monthly, significantly higher than when this historic reform began. The next phase of reforms has further simplified the system with citizens at its core. Rates on essentials like food and medicines have been reduced significantly, along with prices of electronic goods.
Streamlining Procedures for Businesses
The resolution highlighted efforts to correct distortions such as inverted duties while streamlining procedures for small businesses, exporters, and startups. These measures aim to create a more efficient system that benefits all stakeholders involved.
In conclusion, the BJP resolution commended Modi's leadership in implementing GST reforms that have transformed India's economic landscape. By urging businesses to pass on savings to consumers, it seeks to ensure that these reforms lead to improved living standards and economic prosperity for all Indians.
