BMC Election 2026: The Maharashtra Municipal Corporation elections will be held on Thursday, January 15, across 29 municipal corporations (MNCs), including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). With lakhs of Mumbai residents set to cast their votes, only voters whose names appear on the official electoral roll will be eligible to participate in the BMC polls.
More than one crore voters are expected to choose representatives for these civic bodies. After the voting on Thursday, the counting of votes is scheduled for January 16, 2026. Soon after the counting of votes for the polls, the result will be announced on Friday.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, described as India's largest and richest civic body, will elect 227 members. A total of 1,700 candidates are in the fray for the BMC elections in Mumbai 2026. Among them, 879 are women, and 821 are men, reflecting a near-balanced gender contest in the key Mumbai civic polls.
BMC Polls 2025: How To Check Your Name On the Voters' List?
Only those voters whose names appear on the final electoral roll can vote in the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation polls. Hence, voters must ensure that their names are on the voters' list before heading to cast their votes.
After verifying their names, voters should carry a valid photo identity document such as Aadhaar, PAN card or Passport when visiting polling stations during the civic elections.
Maharashtra Municipal Elections 2026: How To Check Name on Voter List?
Voters can confirm enrolment through the Maharashtra State Election Commission Voter List portal by following the below mentioned steps:
-Visit the Maharashtra State Election Commission Voter List portal, ie mahasecvoterlist.in
-Click on 'Search Name in Voter List'
-You can search either by entering your name or by entering 'EPIC' Number detail.
-If you try to search name by 'Name-Wise' method, then you will be required to enter a few details.
-Select 'Local Body', 'District', 'Local Body Name', and then enter your Full Name. Then hit search.
The Election Commission's Voter Helpline App provides another option for Maharashtra Municipal Corporation polls and BMC elections Mumbai 2026. The app is available from eci.gov.in/voter-helpline-app/. After downloading, voters can access the search tool, confirm their EPIC-linked details and locate their assigned polling booth. These digital options aim to reduce confusion on polling day in large urban centres.
According to PTI, the number of contestants in 2026 marks a decline of 25.27 per cent from the 2,275 candidates who fought the civic polls in February 2017. "At that time, a total of 1,190 males, 1,084 females and one transgender candidate had contested the elections," the report said.
